Just sitting here wondering what’s the state of the union. What’s really going on? Does the wifey really love my cooking or is she just greening me. Do the neighbors really enjoy me as a neighbor or they just can’t move away. Are the people at the church really glad to see me or are they just using me to get to heaven? Is the dog really glad I’m home or is he in on the okey doke too? Oops forgot I don’t have a dog.

The president says the state of the union is good,Rev. Herman the adulterer Cain says the state of the union is bad.
I’ll figure it out, just you wait and see.

Today is the day of reckoning in presidential politics for the next four years. Will it be Mitt Romney or president Obama. The people will decide and the pundits and political hucksters will find another avocation for the time being. I too must move on. What will be the focus of this blog? While others are poring over the results of today’s election that is what I will ponder.

For the good of the country I hope Mitt Romney will not be rewarded for the sleazy campaign he has run. I will continue to be a proud Texan and a proud American and wish our next president much success. We must come together for the good of us all. God bless America!

I watched the presidential debates. My verdict not surprisingly perhaps is that the president won convincingly. I would maybe give Mr.Romney more credit if his campaign was based on substance. I believe that the american electorate is more astute politically than they are given credit for.

Mr.Romney is very good at delivering his campaign talking points but he carefully treads no further.  President Obama was in campaign mode as well. The president was most effective in revealing the shallowness of Mr.Romney’s campaign. Mr.Romney seems to be a great family man and he seems dedicated to his church in fact his private life seems pristine. That is why his campaign for the presidency perplexes me so. It is a campaign built on a foundation of dishonesty and deceit and gotcha moments.  I do not relish saying these things about the Romney campaign but it is a must. I do not know which candidate will win, I realize that this is a partisan contest that is very close.

Some may dismiss my comments as those of a supporter of president Obama. They will be wrong. We will get the government that we deserve. I am not naive when it comes to the rough and tumble of our political system in fact I quite enjoy it. I appreciated fully the contentiousness of the last presidential debate this is serious folks. There is no time for levity. I will try to explain my concern.

First of all a house built on a faulty foundation will not stand. Mr.Romney has run a campaign based on lies and deceit. The end justifies the means. This fallacy that discounts totally consumers in the business expansion. It is ridiculous to think that business is built from the top down.  I am waiting to see the first building that is built from the top floor down to the foundation. What successful business  does not first and foremost  need consumers to survive and thrive. What business plan eliminates consumers and bases its success on the wealth of owners solely.

The presidential debate was worth the wait. It was like a heavy weight fight. The challenger this feller Romney came out swinging and this other feller Obama just came out. The referee this guy Lehrer decided that he would mimic Clint Eastwoods.empty chair or in solidarity with his compatriots of the NFL he went on strike. Apparently no one told him the lockout was over. No problem, this feller Romney stepped up to task and filled in admirably as ref as well as continuing to fight. This other feller Obama did not seem to notice, in fact he did not seem to notice much of anything.

This feller threw some heavy punches and he was having so much fun in his dual capacity that he decided to do what makes him happy he fired someone. He fired Big Bird. It felt so good that he fired this feller Lehrer from his day job. This feller Obama…

This feller Romney was having so much fun fighting and refereeing that he began to do some alchemy. This fellerRomney can multi-task something fierce, The other feller Obama did not seem to notice.

What?

I’m just sitting, minding my own business the television watching me more than I was watching it.  On comes the BP commercial about the good times the gulf states are experiencing after the 2010 big BP oil spill. I’ve seen this commercial umpteen times. This time I said what?

Hurricane Isaac had washed oil balls to surface, they came from the BP spill, this was not a one time occurence recently. This time the commercial seemed unseemly.  The damage while out of sight continues, who knows what will be the ultimate environmental impact will be. BP denies fault, they’ll pay some money to the federal government, the affected gulf states (Louisiana, Alabama,Mississippi and Texas) will fight for their share of the bounty and all will be forgiven.  The damage to the citizens of the affected areas, the environment, the food chain and business ethics will continue unabated. So to BP and their feel good commercial  I say What?

What Mitt what?

I  sat barely listening to the television with the talking heads

pontificating in their erudite fashion, when Mitt Romney suddenly brought me to full attention. What did he say better yet what did he mean. My ears thought he said that the 47% of the people who vote for President Obama are freeloaders, looking for a  handout, damn, damn, damn. Certainly this was  some trick, some hollywood manipulation of his voice and image. Whew. There is Mitt he’s on live he’ll clear this up. The aliens have landed,Peyton Manning did not throw three interceptions in the Georgia Dome, all is right. Thanks Mitt, I knew this was  hoax.

You have my attention Mitt, I am fully awake. You said something off the cuff, it was inarticulate.  You really said what my ears heard you say, Peyton really threw those interceptions. Mitt this is not fair to me, now I must clear my head and try to find meaning in what you said. Ok 47% of people don’t pay income taxes (every body pays some  sort of tax or fee, after all I hear you like raising fees) they all vote and they vote for President Obama. Mitt, that may include you.   Mitt you are talking about the retired I thought you liked them. Mitt you are talking about the poor well you had already said they were of no import to you. Mitt some of these people paying no taxes are wealthy, those people who you praised for not paying any taxes they could legally avoid. Mitt you’re giving me a headache. Are you saying that you don’t want the vote of those republicans voters who are in the 47% . Mitt is this a concession speech. What Mitt what.

I am trying to understand, they tell me you are a smart man what Mitt what. My mind hurts Mitt, I can’t make any sense of what you said. What Mitt what. I need some rest.

Republican Convention

  • I watched the Republican Convention, with the intent to comment on it. I must admit that I was stunned. I am a black male baby boomer. I was born in the middle of the last century. I have felt for the majority of my adult life, that blacks should be active in both major political parties at  the very least. In the state of Texas , I have been  delegate to state conventions of both parties at different times. When George W. Bush was the nominee of the Republican  party in Philadelphia I felt elated. The joy was short lived. I therefore consider this my political home and I await a time when I can return and dialogue.  Enough said.
This post is dated so let me be concise . The concepts that define Mitt Romney’s convention was that it was steeped in deception ( The president did not. denigrate those who built a business. He merely said that don’t forget those who aided you. It’s the we as opposed to the I.) Romney’s religion is of no import to me, however as a person he seems to have no aversion to lies and half truths. This was his convention and it bombed.  I was totally surprised.

Salmon

I watched the Republican convention. A very interesting question was posed because of the very talented minority speakers. Why don’t more minorities choose the Republican party? As one who has traveled down both roads I found this to be an intriguing question. It points to the advantages and deficiences of both parties. The Republican party offers opportunities to minorities who are salmon to get into office. Salmon swim upstream to spawn I am told, thus those minorities that go against the prevailing thought of their fellow minorities I call salmon. The democrats have created ghettoes for minority politicians to inhabit. To wit, isolated positions that are reserved for them, however they are required not to invade other neighborhoods ( Governor, U.S. Senate, etc.). Neither of which I find satisfying. I am aware of the outliers ofGovernor Douglas Wilder and  President Barack Obama, however as in marbles slippers don’t count.

Just saying

I must be on a deserted island of political thought when it comes toCondoleeza Rice’s speech at the Republican convention. I found her speech to be specious at best. She pined for the continued funding for the war in Iraq. To wit let’s continue to support them in their freedom quest because after all that’s why we went to war in the first place not WMD ‘s. She pined for more interventions of our military acknowledging that we are war weary. She subtly  called for dismantling  of our public education systems,in a sly call for vouchers, couched in language about zipcodes. I could go on and on. Condy we love you but we’re not buying what you are selling.
