Computer Virus

August 29, 2013

Just the other day I undertook what I thought was a simple task. My anti-virus protection from Norton was expiring, no problem since I also had a subscription to McAfee that was not expiring soon. Change one out put the other in, easy. At least that was my thought process. Oh, how wrong was I.

First McAfee loaded without anti-virus and Internet Security 2013, a virus loaded. Trouble! Tried to get help from McAfee to no avail. The useless help included having a McAfee employee try to download the anti-virus software. Things got worse. My plight went from being able to use safe mode to being totally shut down by Ransom Pak. The McAfee help consisted of an offer to trade $90 for assistance. Well I didn’t think this was a trade I wanted to make. In addition to the fact that my computer was now useless, this wasn’t my lap top it was my wife’s. Problems, problems, problems. I called my computer whiz daughter, who was busy, but very helpful she said you’re up a creek without a paddle.
Discouraged and at wits end I pondered what to say to the wife. Well after a brief period of self pity I, thought of you tube. Genius idea. I found a video to get rid of Ransom Pak but I was still unable to download McAfee anti-virus. Well I could get online so after a two day struggle I gave it a rest and went to sleep. I woke up early the next morning downloaded McAfee total protection felt great problem solved. Not so quick, in the middle of the scan back came Internet Security 2013 virus and sent me back to square one. Well a trip to you tube helped me solve my problem again, all is now well. I ran a full scan that removed five viruses and all is well. The moral of the story? There is no moral, but as easy as it was to remove the virus Internet Security 2013, shame on Norton for allowing it and shame on McAfee for not removing it. This happened within the last ten days the video on you tube that came to my rescue, was downloaded to you tube in 2008.
