I started this blog to address some major issues of the day, especially those that I found myself arguing with the experts as defined by the media. While I continue to argue with the voices emanating from my television, I have not evidenced this sufficiently in this blog.

I have decided to now be on my mission. One of the things I constantly hear is, ” We need a dialogue on race in America”. The one thing we have constantly dialogued on in America is “RACE”. We have talked about the abolition of slavery, we have talked about Jim Crow, we have talked about Race ad infinitum.  I mean, it is an endless conversation that permeates our society.  Today the conversation is much wider than black people and white people it is very much a minority issue.  It includes discrimination of all kinds. At this time I want to dialogue about the word nigger and it’s place in the American landscape.
It is easy to call it a vile word and demand that it be permanently banned forever, not to be uttered by anyone without threat of a public flogging, and banishment from civilized society. However unless you also ban the sentiment emanating from the use of the word I submit, that would be an exercise in futility and of no import. When Riley Cooper of the Philadelphia Eagles used it to denigrate a black security guard and express venom toward people of my persuasion, it wasn’t the word that so vile it was the sentiment expressed. In white America it’s usage as a rule expresses a vile sentiment. In Black America it can express various sentiments, some vile, some sentimental, some self hating, some who knows. There are some things that can be said within a family, that can not be safely said by persons out side the family. Law enforcement encounters this daily when they are called to intervene in domestic disputes. I often hear some refer to rappers use of the word to lessen the vile sentiment sometimes expressed it’s usage. I don’t know rap I am not a connoisseur nor a detractor of rap. I applaud the success of the artist but I see it as an art form. Some art is vulgar to the mores of some. Earlier I referenced the Riley Cooper incident, it would be neglectful of me not to talk about the comments of Hugh Douglas. I will plead to being a hypocrite as I was not offended by his use of the word in a racial context, however in the public forum it was totally unprofessional. In any forum what he said was hateful and hurtful. I do not advocate the use of the word nigger, I am just saying banish the vile sentiment expresses in the usage of the word don’t bury your head in the sand.
